The Driver

At 23, Sloan Urry is determined to win the 2016 Pirelli World Challenge GT Cup Series, and his commitment to the season is evident in his preparation and planning. Beginning in Austin, Sloan will be pushing the competition, forcing them to try to keep up.

A Park City, Utah native, Sloan caught the racing bug in his teens while watching sports car and open wheel racing. He competed in his first race in 2010, finishing 4th in the MPRA Mustang Series at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, behind the wheel of a Mustang FR500S—an amazing accomplishment, considering he had no previous karting experience or race training. After that, he was hooked.

“I love everything about racing…the sounds, the smells, the head-to-head competition!”

In 2011, Sloan made the decision to devote himself to the sport full time, leaving Park City and his studies at the University of Utah for an opportunity to race Porsche Cup cars with TruSpeed Motorsports. The move proved a successful one as Sloan finished 3rd overall at the 2011 Porsche Pirelli Driver’s Cup Championship, piloting a 2009 GT3 Cup car. More podium visits followed in the GT3, including a 1st place finish in the 2011 Tribute to Le Mans at California Speedway. Sloan finished off 2011 strong, with his team placing 2nd at the 2011 USAF NASA 25 Hours of Thunderhill race.

In 2012, Sloan raced a 2011 GT3 Cup car in the Platinum Cup class of the IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama, widely recognized as one of the most competitive one-make car series in the country.

In 2013, Sloan ran a full season in the Effort Racing GT3 Cup car, finishing second in IMSA Championship points with 8 podium finishes, including wins at The Baltimore Grand Prix and the final round at the Petit Le Mans.

2014 saw Sloan racing the JDX Racing Porsche GT3 Cup car with 7 podiums, finishing second in the IMSA Championship.

2015 was Sloan’s strongest season to date as he raced the TruSpeed Porsche GT3 Cup car to 11 podiums and 2nd place in the Pirelli World Challenge Championship, setting him up for his assault on the Championship in 2016.

For 2016, Sloan will race for TruSpeed Autosports in the Security National - Avasis Porsche GT3 Cup car with TruSpeed Motorsports preparing the car and managing race prep to ensure success as the season goes on.

Sloan attributes his success to passion, persistence, a competitive nature and a supportive family, “My biggest inspiration comes from my father. He has shown me that if you set your mind to something, you can accomplish anything.”
